Should I Get My Appliance Repaired or Replaced in Hialeah, FL?

From keeping your food fresh to preparing home-cooked meals, and from laundering your clothing and linens to cleaning your dishes, it’s remarkable how much you rely on your household appliances. Like any component of your Miami-Dade County home, however, even the most durably constructed appliances from the most reputable manufacturers can experience issues. Regular use and age can lead to wear and tear that can impact the function of these all-important machines.

If your dryer is drying your laundry as efficiently, your oven keeps burning your dinners, the inside of your freezer is covered in frost, or you’re having issues with any other appliance that powers your Miami-Dade County home, you’re probably asking: “Should I get my appliance repaired or replace it?”

By considering some key factors, you’ll be able to determine whether you should schedule an appointment with a Hialeah, FL appliance repair specialist or if you should start shopping for a new one.

Is it Really Broken?

Hialeah, FL

First and foremost, you want to make sure the appliance in question is really malfunctioning or that something else is causing the issue. While this might seem pretty obvious, it’s surprising how many Miami-Dade County residents replace their appliances without confirming if they’re really past the point of no return. Make sure it’s plugged in, check the circuit breaker to make sure that it hasn’t tripped, if the appliance has filters (a dryer, for example) check to make sure that they aren’t clogged, and if it has a temperature setting (your fridge or freezer), make sure that it’s properly set. If it’s a simple fix, you can make the repair yourself or contact a Hialeah, FL appliance repair professional.

How Old is the Appliance?

Appliances aren’t meant to last forever. If you’ve had the machine in question for a long time and it’s nearing the end or has exceeded its life expectancy, replacing it is probably a better idea than repairing it. However, if it’s still relatively new, contact a Hialeah, FL appliance repair specialist. A home appliance repair expert may be able to replace the damaged components so that you can get a few more years out of the machine.

What’s the Cost of Repairing vs. Replacing?

Generally speaking, you should contact a Hialeah, FL appliance repair company if replacing it would cost more than fixing it. For instance, if your refrigerator needs a $75 repair, spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a new one doesn’t make sense. If, however, a Miami-Dade County home appliance repair company tells you it will cost $700 or more to repair it, it’s probably time to replace your fridge.

Some information about Hialeah, FL

Hialeah is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. With the population of 233,339 at the 2019 United States Census, Hialeah is the sixth-largest city in Florida. It is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to an estimated 6,198,782 people at the 2018 census. It is located west-northwest of Miami, and is the only place in the county, other than Homestead, Florida, to have its own street grid numbered separately from the rest of the county.

The city’s name is most commonly attributed to Muskogee origin, ‘Haiyakpo’ (prairie) and ‘hili’ (pretty) combining in ‘Hialeah’ to mean ‘pretty prairie’. Alternatively, the word is of Seminole origin meaning ‘Upland Prairie’. The city is located upon a large prairie between Biscayne Bay and the Everglades.

The Seminole interpretation of its name, ‘High Prairie’, evokes a picture of the grassy plains used by the native people coming from the everglades to dock their canoes and display their wares for the newcomers of Miami. This ‘high prairie’ caught the eye of pioneer aviator Glenn Curtiss and Missouri cattleman James H. Bright in 1921. Together, they developed not only the town of Hialeah but also Hialeah Park Race Track. In 1921, the first plat was drawn up, and the town was named.

In the early ‘Roaring ’20s’, Hialeah produced significant entertainment contributions. Sporting included the Spanish sport of jai alai and greyhound racing, and media included silent movies like D.W. Griffith’s The White Rose which was made at the Miami Movie Studios located in Hialeah. However, the 1926 Miami hurricane brought many of these things to an end.
