Should I Get My Appliance Repaired or Replaced in Allapattah, FL?

From keeping your food fresh to preparing home-cooked meals, and from laundering your clothing and linens to cleaning your dishes, it’s remarkable how much you rely on your household appliances. Like any component of your Miami-Dade County home, however, even the most durably constructed appliances from the most reputable manufacturers can experience issues. Regular use and age can lead to wear and tear that can impact the function of these all-important machines.

If your dryer is drying your laundry as efficiently, your oven keeps burning your dinners, the inside of your freezer is covered in frost, or you’re having issues with any other appliance that powers your Miami-Dade County home, you’re probably asking: “Should I get my appliance repaired or replace it?”

By considering some key factors, you’ll be able to determine whether you should schedule an appointment with a Allapattah, FL appliance repair specialist or if you should start shopping for a new one.

Is it Really Broken?

First and foremost, you want to make sure the appliance in question is really malfunctioning or that something else is causing the issue. While this might seem pretty obvious, it’s surprising how many Miami-Dade County residents replace their appliances without confirming if they’re really past the point of no return. Make sure it’s plugged in, check the circuit breaker to make sure that it hasn’t tripped, if the appliance has filters (a dryer, for example) check to make sure that they aren’t clogged, and if it has a temperature setting (your fridge or freezer), make sure that it’s properly set. If it’s a simple fix, you can make the repair yourself or contact a Allapattah, FL appliance repair professional.

How Old is the Appliance?

Appliances aren’t meant to last forever. If you’ve had the machine in question for a long time and it’s nearing the end or has exceeded its life expectancy, replacing it is probably a better idea than repairing it. However, if it’s still relatively new, contact a Allapattah, FL appliance repair specialist. A home appliance repair expert may be able to replace the damaged components so that you can get a few more years out of the machine.

What’s the Cost of Repairing vs. Replacing?

Generally speaking, you should contact a Allapattah, FL appliance repair company if replacing it would cost more than fixing it. For instance, if your refrigerator needs a $75 repair, spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a new one doesn’t make sense. If, however, a Miami-Dade County home appliance repair company tells you it will cost $700 or more to repair it, it’s probably time to replace your fridge.

Some information about Allapattah, FL

Allapattah is a neighborhood mostly in the city of Miami, Florida, and partly in metropolitan Miami, United States. As of May 2011, the county-owned portion of Allapattah, from State Road 9 to LeJeune Road, is being annexed by the city proper.

The name is derived from the Seminole Indian language word meaning alligator. The initial settlement of the Allapattah community began in 1856 when William P. Wagner, the earliest documented white American permanent settler, arrived from Charleston, South Carolina and established a homestead on a hammock along the Miami Rock Ridge, where Miami Jackson High School presently stands. Development ensued from 1896 and into the 20th century in the area with the completion of the Florida East Coast Railroad (FEC).

Allapattah was predominantly populated by whites from early in the 20th century until the late 1950s, when there was a large influx of black Americans displaced by the construction of I-95 (then, the North-South Expressway) in the 1950s and 1960s, leading to white flight to suburban Miami-Dade County and Broward County. Cubans migrated to Miami neighborhoods like Allapattah in large numbers following the Cuban Revolution of 1959, hosting one of Miami’s largest Cuban American populations. The 1980s brought influxes of Dominican Americans, Nicaraguans, Hondurans, and Haitians in the aftermath of various refugee crises in those nations. Now, a melting pot of residents from all across the Caribbean, Central America, Latin America more broadly, and African Americans who historically lived throughout the South, reside in the area.
